In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Dr. Robert Brooks, a clinical psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School and former Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital in the Boston area. He has lectured nationally and internationally and written extensively about such themes as psychotherapy, motivation, resilience across the lifespan, parenting, and family relationships, as well as creating a positive school and work environment. Burns, an American psychiatrist and adjunct professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is the author of bestselling books such as Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, The Feeling Good Handbook, and Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety. Dr. Burns developed an approach to psychotherapy called T.E.A.M. Therapy. T.E.A.M. is an acronym denoting Testing, Empathy, Assessment of Resistance (formerly Agenda Setting), and Methods. TEAM claims to address some of the shortcomings in cognitive therapy and proposes that motivation influences our thoughts, feelings, and actions just as much as our thoughts (or cognitions). Dr. Clarke graduated from Williams College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and holds an MD from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. His organization’s mission is to advance the awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of stress-related and brain-generated medical conditions. Dr. Cogan is a mindfulness meditation teacher and executive consultant. She earned a PhD in social psychology and has edited two other books and published many articles in academic journals. She is a member of the Washington Mindfulness Com- munity’s Practice Council and received her dharma name, Loving Peace of the Heart, in 2009. Her name reminds her that all she needs to be at peace is connection with her own breath. Jeanine is passionate about teaching meditation to others in the community, at conferences, and in the workplace, as well as weaving it into her professional coaching with clients. A former academic, Jeanine has edited two books and written 20+ articles for professional journals. Mary Hillebrand is a former magazine editor and writer and is now a teacher and enjoys teaching mindfulness to high school and adult students and other educators. Mary enjoys teaching mindfulness to her students and sharing her practice with other educators. In her prior career as a journalist, she has written and edited for a variety of business and financial publications.
