E346– Inner Voice – A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan. In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Dr. Kenneth Blum, a well-known American scientist recognized for his work in psychopharmacology and psychiatric genetics. We explored the role of assessment of “Pre-Addiction” and the responsibility of the medical field to bring this important factor into everyday practice. Dr. Blum has published over 740 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and meeting abstracts, with 17 books with over 18,000 citations and 185,000 reads worldwide. He has distinguished himself and is credited with the first genetic association of the Dopamine D2 receptor gene and severe alcoholism, published in JAMA in 1990. He is considered by some to be the Father of Psychiatric Genetics. In 1995, Dr. Blum coined the term “Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS)” and developed the USA and foreign-patented “Genetic Addiction Risk Severity” (GARS) test. Dr. Blum has also developed patented Pro-dopamine regulators in the USA and Europe. His overall patent portfolio consists of 100 patents worldwide. Dr. Blum serves on 23 peer-reviewed journals and is the Editor-in-Chief of several academic journals, including Current Psychopharmacology and Addiction Psychiatry. He also serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Psychiatry and Frontiers in Public Health. Dr. Blum is also the founding President of the United Scientific Group, an academic publishing house. His work has been featured in all the major media outlets worldwide, and in 1990, his work on genetics was in the top 25 most important scientific discoveries by Discovery Magazine. He is the recipient of NIH grants and has been awarded Lifetime Achievements, distinguished Honorary Doctors of Humane Letters, Lifetime Honorary Professor at ELTE Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary, and Distinguished Honorary Professor at Adelson School of Medicine, Ariel University, Israel. Currently, besides faculty positions as an adjunct professor (Western University, University of Vermont, Wright School of Medicine), he is the Executive Chairman and CEO of TranspliceGen Therapeutics, Inc. Stanford University credited him in the top 2% of the World Best Scientist list (2023). Most recently, the International Research Awards on Neurology and Neuro Disorders awarded him the “Best Researcher Award 2023. Dr. Blum has been recently nominated for the KEIO Medical & Science PRIZE (THE JAPANESE EQUIVALENT TO THE NOBEL PRIZE) 2024. In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Dr. Donald Meichenbaum about anger, how to manage anger, how to recognize the signs of an abuser in intimate relationship violence, and much more. Dr. Meichenbaum is a psychologist and Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. He is a research director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment at the University of Miami. Dr. Meichenbaum is known for his research and publications on psychotherapy and contributed to developing the technique of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The American Psychological Association has voted him the tenth most influential psychotherapist of the 20th century. He was also chosen as the "most valuable contribution to the general field of psychotherapy" of that year by the Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy. Dr. Meichenbaum developed the therapeutic technique of cognitive-behavior modification, publishing the 1977 clinical handbook Cognitive Behavior Modification: An Integrative Approach. This umbrella term describes treatments that aim to change overt behaviors by changing thought patterns and cognitive processes. He has authored 12 books, with his recent one being "Treating Individuals with Addictive Disorders – A Strengths-Based Workbook for Patients and Clinicians," published in 2020. www.melissainstitute.org. Robert has been a developer, author, trainer, and consultant in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) - a model of human behavior, learning, and communication, and has provided coaching, consulting, and training worldwide to various individuals and organizations. E342– Inner Voice – A Heartfelt Chat with Dr. Foojan. In this episode, Dr. Foojan Zeine chats with Victor Trillo and Tyler Stonebraker. Victor is a founding team member of The PATHfinder Club and works as a youth mentor, employing his deep understanding of the impact of incarceration on individuals, first as the son of a man in prison throughout Victor’s childhood and later as a prisoner himself. At the age of 19, Victor received a Life sentence that was reversed after he had been incarcerated for 21 years. He is a powerful advocate for children of the incarcerated and, in June 2023, became the Program Coordinator for The PATHfinder Club and POPS the Club. Tyler is a 17-year-old high school senior from Parkrose High School in Portland who has been struggling with poverty all his life. He has nobody to look up to but is trying to turn his life around at The PATHfinder Club. We shared about the environmental factors that lead to teen incarceration and the path, hope, and the process of healing and health through expression and art. Burns, an American psychiatrist and adjunct professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is the author of bestselling books such as Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, The Feeling Good Handbook, and Feeling Great: The Revolutionary New Treatment for Depression and Anxiety. Dr. Burns developed an approach to psychotherapy called T.E.A.M. Therapy. T.E.A.M. is an acronym denoting Testing, Empathy, Assessment of Resistance (formerly Agenda Setting), and Methods.
